Audi launches first supercar, the Audi R8 in Paris

Audi launched its first ever supercar in the recent Paris Auto Show. Based on the Audi Le Mans prototype, this mid-engine V8 churns out 480 bhp and is fully equipped with the famed quattro all wheel drive train. The sculpted V8 FSI engine takes centre attraction and it could be considered a beautiful masterpiece. A V10 engine version of this supercar is also expected and it would truly be interesting to see the V10 R8 compete with the Lamborghini Gallardo, its distant brethren.

The face of the R8 showcases a sleek grille which identifies this sports car with the Auto Union heritage. On the side, a two-tone paneling creates a very elegant look combined with the sloping roofline that is reminiscent of the TT. The car ends with an automatically extending rear spoiler that would be deployed to make the R8 more stable at high speeds.

Inside, the familiar Audi steering wheel found in Audi's S-line cars makes its appearance and the whole interior resembles a flight cockpit with black controls with chrome surrounds geared towards the driver. Unlike most sports cars with small gear levers, the R8 features a stout metallic gear lever. Special bucket seats designed by Audi’s quattro division provide the final unique look for Audi's first supercar.
