Land Rover launches new Freelander, codenamed LR2

The smallest addition to the Land Rover family is slated to make its debut in the London Motor Show. With the Land Rover Discovery codenamed LR3, the new Freelander has been given the codename LR2. The LR2 features a completely fresh exterior and interior design, integrating the company's unmistakeable design language to represent the unique brand standing of Land Rover as a niche pure-SUV manufacturer.

The LR2 has a five-door monocoque structure to give it a high level of torsional rigidity that is meant to give the Land Rover a level of refinement, comfort and on-road as well as off-road handling. By including Land Rover's Roll Stability Control (RSC ), it adds modern stability control systems to its fully independent suspension. Being designed and engineered by Land Rover at Gaydon, England, the LR2 will be manufactured at the Halewood plant in Liverpool and fitted with a brand-new 3.2-liter inline-six engine that will provide a 0-60 mph time of 8.4 seconds.
Inside, the LR2's expansive glass areas will add on to a spacious feel and complement the elevated ‘command driving’ position which is a hallmark feature of Land Rovers. At the back seats, a‘stadium seating’arrangement will allow rear passengers to sit slightly higher than front occupants providing them a clearer view of the world outside. The dashboard has the utilitarian look of the Discovery and its chunky styling befits the exterior styling of the LR2.
