3 Series makea a first Coupe-Cabriolet for BMW

After launching the new 3 Series coupe with its 'first' turbocharged engine in a long long time, BMW does another first with its coupe-cabriolet, 2-in-1, based on its best-selling 3 series again. Little change is done on the exterior except for the retractable metal roof which could transform the coupe into a convertible for the summer. BMW states that its lightweight 3 piece metal roof will take just 22 seconds to be stowed under the rear compartment.

With the roof fully up, the convertible becomes a full fledged coupe, suitable for the winter season. Unlike previous models of the 3 Series convertible, the new model's navigation and radio antennas are integrated neatly inside the car, enabling a clean look without unsightly protruding antennas with the roof up or down.

Initialy, the rear lid of the convertible opens outward to expose the roof for complete opening or closing. The mechanism of the new convertible's steel roof has an elegant fluid movement with each part of the 3-piece roof component resting above the other to create a compact package. Overall, the year 2007 summer looks to be a good one for BMW.

Takeaway: BMW looks set to have another sales success with their new convertible, or coupe that is.
